Job Title: Commercial Director – UK and Europe
Responsible To: Chief Executive Officer
Reports: Commercial Function – UK and Europe

Summary of the role:

The main objective of the role is to lead the UK & Europe commercial division of the company reporting into the CEO and Exec Team.  A strong leader and team builder researching, developing and implementing Privilege’s business development and commercial strategy. Identifying new business opportunities, maintaining key relationships, negotiating and closing business deals in both the UK and Europe whilst delivering high quality, sustainable renewable energy project proposals.

Responsibilities and key duties:

  • Research, develop and implement a strategy to differentiate Privilege from its competitors in the renewable energy and project sector in order to deliver highest margin and lowest risk projects
  • Develop, prepare and present clear business cases
    Investigate and recommend new Renewable Technology areas the company should invest in
  • Develop and lead with a positive team culture, managing the team to achieve company, departmental and individual goals and objectives
  • Build and manage relationships with technology and other suppliers
  • Build and maintain a network of valuable executive level relationships across the renewables industry in the UK and Europe
  • Maintain and develop an extensive knowledge of current market conditions
  • Build, validate and develop business leads into sales opportunities that conform to the key lending or development criteria of the business
  • Deliver accurate and comprehensive credit applications/proposals to the highest standard in line with investment committee criteria
  • Maintain accurate opportunity forecasts and reporting across the commercial area
  • Attend events and conferences in relation to the renewable energy sector and report back to CEO and Exec team on innovations and developments affecting Privilege’s business
  • Manage workloads and changing priorities and work under pressure to tight deadlines.
  • Producing monthly management information for the board of directors against company and departmental targets
  • Ensure all opportunities and project applications are monitored and thorough due diligence is carried out to agreed levels
  • Oversee and support the account management team to achieve credit reviews of current borrowing agreements inline with agreed timescales
  • Ensure that all communication with customers is regular and recorded on the CRM system

Skills, Qualifications, Knowledge and experience required

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong team management skills
  • Able to manage workloads and priorities and work under pressure to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to gain knowledge of basic Anaerobic Digestion/Biogas financial models and plant operations within 6 months of appointment
  • A team player who is able to develop effective relationships within the team and work in partnership with others
  • Willing to embrace change and challenge processes to improve efficiency
  • Level headed and measured approach
  • Highly articulate and numerate
  • Strong communication skills – verbal and written
  • Excellent presentation skills

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Experience of developing and leading a team – essential
  • Background in the renewables industry including anaerobic digestion, energy from waste, hydrogen and biomass – essential
  • Knowledge and experience of funding complex medium/large capital projects or transactions – essential
  • Demonstrable track record of building “C” level relationships – essential
  • Solutions led experience – essential
  • A European Language, other than English – desirable
